Shanghai Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2027 season opens October 8 and runs through October 16, across Xintiandi, the New Bund, and a widening ring of Jing’an, Changning, and Xuhui neighbourhoods.

Organisers have built the season around nearly 100 runway shows and premiere presentations and close to 1,000 participating brands, positioning them as flagships of this year’s Shanghai Summer international consumption push. The theme, rendered by the organisers as “Renewed Radiance,” sets the tone for a week explicitly framed around resilience: brands that have weathered a difficult market and come out sharper for it.

Zhang Jie, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, described the runway as an industrial platform, an innovation track, and a commercial marketplace. Officials have said the goal is to anchor Shanghai as an international consumption centre, with more Chinese designers discovered locally, more original brands scaling rapidly, and fashion attracting more international capital and global consumers to the city.

The opening show goes to HEMU, the Shanghai label founded in 2010 by Yang Fengrui, making its fifteenth Shanghai Fashion Week appearance. Its new collection, titled “Silk Road,” draws on Dunhuang cultural references and pulls together yunjin, Song brocade, kesi silk weaving, gambiered Canton gauze, batik, tie-dye, and embroidery, developed in part with national-level yunjin heritage craftsman Jin Wen.

Xintiandi’s main tent remains the week’s commercial and creative centre, with a lineup including Xiaoli, Staffonly, Comme Moi, Pronounce, and Short Sentence from earlier seasons. Pronounce is making its womenswear runway debut. LABELHOOD, now in its 22nd edition, moves to Yongyuan Road in Jing’an under the theme “契场,” with a lineup that includes Oude Waag, WMWM, Garçon by Garçon, Ao Yes, Yirantian, Markgong, and Shushu/Tong. New talent Poetra and Osschaert, a graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, also join the lineup.

Over at New Bund’s Qiantan 31, GLAM’s specialised showcase focuses on bridal wear and couture under its own seasonal theme.

MODE Shanghai SS27 Brings International Buyers and Global Fashion Brands

MODE Shanghai remains the trade backbone, running October 8 to 12 at Crystal Bridge in Changning across more than 50,000 square metres, its largest footprint yet. MODE and its network of showrooms together form what organisers call Asia’s largest ordering season, spanning ready-to-wear, accessories, fragrance, and lifestyle categories.

More than half of MODE’s exhibitors this season come from outside China, with first-time participation from Russian labels Zlatasiberia, 3DS, and STRELNIK, and a first-time buyer delegation from Kazakhstan’s Saks Fifth Avenue.

Returning international buyers include Italy’s ANTONIOLI and New York’s 3NY. Parallel showrooms spread the trade activity across the city: ONTIMESHOW at the Shanghai West Bund Art Center, TUBE SHOWROOM inside Xintiandi’s CPIC building, TUDOO SHOWROOM alongside MODE at Crystal Bridge, LAB SHOWROOM on Yongyuan Road, BLOOMING SHOWROOM at Greenland Bund Center and THE COOL HUNTER SHOWROOM at The Summit, all covering Huangpu, Jing’an, Changning, Xuhui, and Pudong.

MODE’s exhibitor list spans China, South Korea, Russia, France, Italy, and the United States. Promas, France’s menswear federation, is debuting at Shanghai Fashion Week this season, with an event called “Double City Prologue,” running 10 to 12 October, and bringing five French labels to the schedule for market visits and exchanges: Baziszt, Coltesse, Egonlab, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and Mii Collection.

Anta, Adidas, H&M, and Sanrio Bring Major Brand Collaborations

Anta is unveiling a new phase of its partnership with Designer Chen Peng on 11 October. Adidas is running a presentation called “Future of Three” at Shanghai A.F.A. ROJO, built around Spring/Summer 2027 collections and the return of Stan Smith alongside a new look for Y-3, the label’s collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto.

H&M is collaborating with Elie Saab for its China debut preview at an H&M showroom, giving the week its clearest luxury-meets-high-street crossover moment. Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty, joins Shanghai Fashion Week for the first time as an official partner, building its presentation around Kuromi with collaborations from Chinese designers. The season closes on 16 October with a runway show produced with Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, featuring 45 emerging local designers.

Officials at the pre-season briefing described fashion’s competitive edge as shifting toward technology, pointing to AI and flexible supply chains as the forces reshaping how quickly a brand can move from concept to shelf, with personalisation and lower costs among the direct benefits. Functional fabrics paired with smart wearables get their first dedicated push this season.

Shanghai Fashion Weekend 2026 Expands Public Access to Fashion Shows

The city has also expanded how much of the week the public can actually access. Selected shows remain open to ticketed visitors, and the “Shanghai Fashion Weekend” extends the programme into Dongtaili, Xintiandi Style Phase II, and the Yongyuan Road district, designed to convert runway attention into neighbourhood foot traffic and retail sales. Last year’s street layer lifted daily sales at Dongtaili by 18 per cent during the week, with cumulative footfall reaching 180,000.
