Victoria Beckham Beauty has introduced Hotel Portofino, the brand’s first extrait de parfum and fifth fragrance to join its scent collection since 2023. Created with master perfumer Jérôme Epinette, the release builds on Portofino ‘97, the eau de parfum that opened the brand’s fragrance category.
It has since become one of its strongest-performing segments. She built the new scent around the same 1997 trip to the Italian coast that inspired the original, describing it as a later chapter in the same relationship with David Beckham.
Hotel Portofino Builds on the Story Behind Portofino ‘97
Beckham described Portofino ‘97 as a record of early romance, from the period when she and David kept their relationship private. She said Hotel Portofino picks up that same memory further along: the original captured the rush of infatuation, while Hotel Portofino reflects a more settled version of the same relationship. She named bergamot as the ingredient linking the two scents, present in both formulations, despite their different structures.
What’s Inside Hotel Portofino: Bergamot, Wild Fig, and Agarwood
What makes Hotel Portofino’s structure so different? Portofino ‘97 opens on Calabrian bergamot and black pepper before moving into amber, incense, vetiver, and patchouli. Hotel Portofino keeps the bergamot but pairs it with basil and saffron for a sharper opening. Its heart adds wild fig, agarwood, and a pinot noir accord, giving it a woodier character than anything else in the range.
The base settles on incense, papyrus, and black amber. An extrait de parfum carries a higher concentration of fragrance oil than an eau de parfum, so it tends to sit heavier on skin. It means Hotel Portofino is designed to last longer, carrying you from the moment you step out until you decide to call it a night. Every other fragrance in Victoria Beckham Beauty’s collection has stayed within eau de parfum strength.
Epinette, senior perfumer at Robertet, has built a client list that includes Byredo, Harry Styles, and Ariana Grande. When the original Portofino ‘97 trio launched, he described the woody signature running through all of Beckham’s fragrances as a deliberate choice: “She’s bold, so each of these fragrances has a big woody signature,” he said, adding that Beckham didn’t want “nice, easy, fresh fragrances. The line is also produced in-house rather than through a licensee, a structure Beckham has said she began developing roughly eight years before Victoria Beckham Beauty itself launched.
Inside Victoria Beckham Beauty's Fragrance Line
Victoria Beckham Beauty’s other fragrances follow the same place-and-memory format as Hotel Portofino and Portofino ‘97. Each ties back to a different place in Beckham’s life, from France to Indonesia to California. 21:50 Rêverie Eau de Parfum, built on vanilla, cedarwood, and tonka bean; Suite 302 Eau de Parfum, structured around black cherry, leather, and tobacco leaf; and San Ysidro Drive, which pairs saffron with rose and amber.
Each fragrance in the collection ships in a flacon modelled on a vintage parfum bottle Beckham has gathered while travelling, finished in a colour tied to the place it references. Portofino ‘97 comes in a blue enamel flacon, inspired by the Ligurian coastline, priced at $200 for 50 ml, and $290 for 100 ml. According to WWD reports, Hotel Portofino departs from this in both pricing and palette.
Victoria Beckham Beauty Builds on Fragrance and Skincare Growth
Fragrance has become a real driver for Victoria Beckham Beauty, with Portofino ‘97 leading what the company has called one of its best-performing categories. Skincare has grown alongside it. Foundation Drops, developed with Augustinus Bader, more than doubled the brand’s skincare business and became its second bestselling product overall. Lauren Edelman, who became CEO in January 2025 after two years as the brand’s global chief marketing officer, credited the growth to the company’s product development and brand storytelling across every category.
Retail has expanded to match. Victoria Beckham Beauty is now stocked at Mecca in Australia; Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s in the United States; Oh My Cream in France; and Space NK and Harrods in the United Kingdom, with existing doors said to be outperforming both the wider market and department-store averages. Edelman has pushed that footprint to more than 200 doors globally by the end of 2025.
Victoria Beckham Holdings, which houses the fashion label founded in 2008 and the beauty brand launched in 2019, posted its first year of operating profitability in 2025, 18 years after the fashion business began, with revenues reaching £129.8 million. Beckham discussed the shift with the Financial Times with CEO Sybille Darricarrère Lunel and Beauty CEO Lauren Edelman, describing it as the result of work across both sides of the company.
