After a world debut in Thailand, MCM’s Monchhichi bags reach Singapore and Hong Kong in a collaboration timed to the house’s 50th anniversary.
MCM has released a four-bag collaboration with Monchhichi, the Japanese plush character known for its freckles and thumb-sucking pose, as part of its 50th-anniversary year. Thailand got the world debut on 10 September, with sales at five MCM boutiques, among them Siam Paragon and EmQuartier. The collection reaches Singapore on 2 November 2026, followed by Hong Kong and Macau on 9 November. The line-up is the Liz Shopper, the Aren Shoulder Bag, the Aren Vanity Case and the Toni Shopper/Tote.
In Thailand, the actress Freen Sarocha fronted the campaign, and the EmQuartier boutique held a launch event on the first day of sales, with prize draws for fans.
MCM x Monchhichi Bag Prices and Design Details in Singapore
Singapore prices run from S$1,030 for the Aren Vanity Case to S$1,150 for the Liz Shopper, a serious sum for a bag with a thumb-sucking character on it. The Aren Shoulder Bag costs S$1,120 and the Toni S$1,080.
The Liz is a compact shopper, the Aren Shoulder Bag runs horizontally, and the vanity case is a compact crossbody. The Cognac Visetos monogram and cognac colourway are MCM’s own, as are the gold-tone hardware and premium canvas. The Liz carries a motif of the boy and girl Monchhichi holding a red heart in one corner, and the two Aren bags carry a girl Monchhichi with a pink bow.
MCM’s 50th Anniversary Collaborations in 2026
MCM was founded in Munich in 1976. Its 50th year has so far produced a capsule with DJ Khaled’s We the Best imprint, co-designed with the imprint’s fashion arm. The capsule spans leather goods, apparel, accessories and footwear and revisits the Stark Backpack and the Ottomar Weekender. It went on sale on 9 July through MCM’s stores and website, with a two-week pop-up at Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street timed to the launch, and Dirk Schönberger, MCM’s global chief brand officer, called it “a landmark moment for MCM’s 50th anniversary.” In late September, MCM co-hosted a West Hollywood event with Flaunt to celebrate the magazine’s newest issue and its cover star Bebe Rexha, who performed to close the night.
MCM became FC Bayern Women’s official travel-luggage partner earlier this year and supplied bags and backpacks for the team’s summer tour. The adidas capsule followed on 22 October, led by a special jersey that sets the Cognac Visetos monogram beside the club crest and adidas details. Track tops and wide-leg track pants carry the Three Stripes alongside MCM motifs. The Ottomar Weekender duffel and the Stark Backpack come with cream leather trims. The campaign was shot in Tokyo with FC Bayern Women players including Lena Oberdorf and Magdalena Eriksson, and FC Bayern sells the collection in all of its stores and online.
Monchhichi Character History: From Japanese Plush Toy to Global Icon
Sekiguchi released Monchhichi in 1974 as a plush toy with a thumb-sucking pose and freckles, its face, hands and feet made of soft vinyl. It comes as a boy, Monchhichi-kun, and a girl, Monchhichi-chan. Exports began the following year, and the character has sold more than 70 million units in over 30 countries. It marked its 50th anniversary in 2024.
Luxury Brand Collaborations with Monchhichi, Pokémon and Labubu
MCM’s Monchhichi bags, which carry a Monchhichi motif on the Cognac Visetos monogram, start at S$1,030 for the Aren Vanity Case in Singapore. The VASIC Bond Mini costs ¥55,000, about US$370, and Maison de Sabré’s Pikachu charms are US$89.
Sabré’s limited-edition collection for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary went on sale worldwide at 6pm Eastern on 26 February through its website and retailers including Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. The Pikachu Palais, a reworking of its flagship handbag, is assembled from 44 leather pieces.
At Stella McCartney’s 4 March show in the Bois de Boulogne, staged for the Year of the Horse, ten horses led by the equestrian artist Jean-François Pignon entered the ring before the models. Guests received retro My Little Pony toys as invitations, and charms from the runway go on sale in December.
Moynat’s second collection with Kasing Lung went on sale from 6 February, with Labubu and the other Monsters on the house’s M Canvas, and is sold exclusively in selected boutiques. VASIC, a New York label founded by the Japanese designer Kanoko Mizuo, put Pikachu and Eevee on its Bond line in August, starting with a limited shop at the Hankyu Umeda Main Store on 5 August and an Isetan Shinjuku pop-up from 12 August.
