Hugo Boss is rebooting its womenswear with the fall 2027 collection, and Kerstin Dorst, who joined the German group in January as senior vice president of the womenswear business unit, is the person leading it. The reset reaches from sizing and fit through silhouette, fabrication and accessories.

Womenswear accounts for about 10 per cent of Hugo Boss’s business, and the company wants the women who might wear Boss to think of it again. The label had “lost the creativity of what we can do with a wardrobe,” Dorst says.

Why Hugo Boss Is Looking to Grow Its Womenswear Business

That 10 per cent is steady, and it has come without a breakthrough. Boss has set no immediate sales-share target for womenswear. The stated ambition is to reinstall the brand in the minds of women, in line with “better before bigger”, the principle inside Claim 5 Touchdown, the turnaround strategy unveiled in December. The customer it has in mind leads a multifaceted life and wants pieces that are wearable, easy, confidence-building and able to evolve with her.

Frasers Group, the British retail group controlled by Mike Ashley, took control of Hugo Boss on 23 October, shortly before the womenswear reset was reported. It bought 198,666 further shares for about 7.63 million euros, paid from existing cash, to lift its stake to 50.08 per cent. A summer takeover offer at 38 euros a share, which the Hugo Boss management and supervisory boards rejected as financially inadequate, had still left Frasers at 47.89 per cent in August, and a voting-rights notice on 26 October confirmed it now directly holds more than half the votes. Frasers chief executive Michael Murray was elected chairman of the supervisory board in September, and Hugo Boss shares closed at 38.41 euros on the day control passed.

Kerstin Dorst Brings Tory Burch and Adidas Experience to Boss

Dorst’s appointment belongs to a new organisational structure intended to create gender-specific expertise across Boss and Hugo, unlock synergies and improve collaboration and efficiency. She oversees creative direction for womenswear and works closely with Marco Falcioni, the creative director of Hugo Boss.

Her own background is international. She spent more than a decade at Tory Burch in New York, where she played a key role in the main collection and in sportswear, and more than five years at Adidas, contributing to the launch of its premium sportswear line, Adidas Slvr. Her stated creative goal is a “more feminine collection”, with women “fully” themselves in it.

Hugo Boss Introduces French Sizing From 30 to 50

The reset was an overhaul of the product itself. “We’re not just relaunching the design part; we really reshaped and reconstructed the product from sizing to fit,” Dorst said. Boss womenswear now uses the French sizing scale, which runs from 30 to 50. Development leaned on a hands-on draping process, used to judge how clothing sits and moves on the body. “Sometimes you need to feel the fabric,” Dorst said.

Boss’s German campus gives the womenswear team in-house factories and deep patternmaking expertise, and Dorst calls patternmaking a “dying art”. “We have all that playing field; we just need the vision,” she added.

Boss Fall 2027 Womenswear Collection: 200 Styles and a New Core

The fall 2027 collection spans approximately 200 styles and is built around feminine tailoring: dresses and blazers, coats, knitwear, blouses and layering pieces. Boss has simplified the range and created a sharper core that accounts for about 20 per cent of it, or roughly 40 styles. “Core doesn’t mean basic,” Dorst stressed, pointing to greater attention to silhouette, fit, fabrication and detail. Pricing stays at core foundation price points, while the upper range is extended selectively for customers who want to spend more.

Feminine Tailoring, Removable Collars and Reworked Skirts

A roomy jacket gains polish from tone-on-tone thread embroidery. Skirts are constructed from long raw-edged panels that create a trompe-l’oeil pleating effect. A poplin shirt carries a sequin-embellished silk collar that removes, allowing the embellishment without making the shirt difficult to wear or care for.

Coats use hourglass seams to follow the curves of the body, and under-arm panels improve the range of movement. Denim includes a curving leg, and neo-suiting encourages mixing separates from different sets.

Fall 2027 Colour Trends: Burgundy, Red, Blue and Textured Neutrals

Dorst treats texture and tone as inseparable. “Color lives through the fabric, not the other way around,” she said, and she argues that simply matching knitwear, leather and other materials to the same Pantone shade “normally never works”. The palette puts workhorse blues, burgundies, whites and neutrals beside luminous reds and delicate yellows, with nubbly marled wools and considered denim washes alongside.

Hugo Boss Accessories: Totes, Clutches and Modern Cummerbunds

A customer may carry a tote that holds a computer through the working day and keep a clutch inside it for the evening. Clothes and accessories alike are intended to make it easier to move between different moments of the day.

Cummerbunds reference the label’s menswear heritage and arrive with what Boss calls a “modern female interpretation”. Dorst styled an embellished version with mid-wash jeans.
