Amsterdam Fashion Week returns from 1 to 5 September, bringing more than forty shows and presentations across the city, as the event enters the second phase of its partnership with Copenhagen Fashion Week. Brands showing this season are being reviewed against a Sustainability Requirements framework for the first time, a pilot ahead of full rollout in September 2027. The programme spans couture debuts and a supermarket runway, with backstage beauty direction from Sebastian Professional and MAC Cosmetics.
Sustainability Takes Centre Stage at Amsterdam Fashion Week 2026
The Minimum Standards pilot asks brands to test sustainability actions during this edition before the requirement becomes binding. Rhea, opening a two-day pop-up from founders Roos Fleuren and Bridget Cumberworth, is going further than the framework asks: every piece carries a Renoon digital product passport, letting shoppers scan a QR code to trace materials and production through a full Life Cycle Assessment.
The Creative Lab pushes the same thread from the emerging-designer end, giving nine NL-based names a platform to show sustainably made capsule collections, four looks each, styled with local jewellery and accessory designers.
United Repair Academy pairs student tailors with Levi’s denim for an interactive repair workshop. Fleuril’s GO POINT pop-up lets guests trade a worn piece for a mystery item and repair a wardrobe at an on-site station.
Camiel Fortgens Stages SS27 Inside a Working Supermarket
Camiel Fortgens’s SS27 show is staged inside an Albert Heijn supermarket at Stadionplein after hours while shelf stackers keep working. Models walk past fresh produce and canned goods while regulars do a weekly shop. At AFW, where the whole city becomes the venue, it fits the format the fashion week has been building toward for years.
Wave of Debuts at AFW 2026: AICHE, FORTANIER, Studio NK, and Bevan Agyemang
AICHE’s first couture show, Seeing Sounds, is backed by Escentric Molecules, tracing how music shapes identity and ritual through four characters moving across a fragmented cityscape.
Eva Korsten introduces FORTANIER, her first collection under her own name after leading YUME YUME, styled with hair by Siko Van Berkel and support from Google Pixel 11 and L’Oréal Professionnel. Studio NK makes its runway debut with The Passage. London-based designer Bevan Agyemang brings an immersive performance and exhibition called Materialising Memories for his Dutch debut, weaving craftsmanship, ritual, and movement into a piece about collective history.
Natan returns to the schedule with an RTW SS27 collection rooted in Belgian couture heritage. Tess van Zalinge marks ten years by handing creative direction of her archive show to three younger designers, Evy Cornelie, Dirkje Lemmink, and Simone van Ommen, each reinterpreting the label’s history on their own terms.
Bibi van der Velden promises a novel experience with Jewels on Wheels, a mobile fine jewellery experience built to meet the public.
The New Originals unveils its collection at Nxt Museum alongside a tribute to Osofo Dadzie, the Ghanaian television series, created with filmmaker Ebeneza Blanche. Vlisco opens its World of Vlisco showcase the same day, pairing ready-to-wear with archive prints under the banner of Voices of the Sun.
Lichting marks its twentieth edition this year, giving ten of the Netherlands’ most promising fashion graduates a runway in front of an international jury, with the winner taking a €5,000 prize from the Meester Koetsier Foundation and a place on AFW 2026’s programme.
2025 winner Youngjin Choe presents ahead of that show under his own label Jinchoe. Escentric Molecules marks its own twentieth year with an intimate dinner celebrating its minimalist, genderless approach to fragrance and the launch of its C0DE WITHIN campaign. The HUB, opening 3 and 4 September at RIVVIA on Keizersgracht, dedicates a special exhibition to Lichting’s two decades in partnership with Gemeente Amsterdam.
Beauty direction across the week leans toward unpolished. “Hair is becoming more personal than ever,” said Kirsti Solberg, Creative Leader at Sebastian Professional Northern Europe. She remarked that current trends are a blend of craftsmanship and lived-in ease.
Hannah Bennett, MAC’s Global Senior Artist for the Netherlands, described a similar instinct running through the week’s makeup. The rawness of the designers’ approach, with sustainability and conscious craftsmanship woven naturally into the creative process, is what makes her keep coming back.
Hyundai returns as a mobility partner and Hotel De L’Europe as a hotel partner, hosting international guests through the week. The programme closes Saturday with an official party at Westerkerk and an unofficial closing at Club RAUM built around inclusion and underground creative voices.
